Journalistic concept

Exclusive and authentic: discoveries beyond the everyday

The journalistically independent supplement «REISEN» is published four times a year in the «NZZ am Sonntag» and is dedicated to the most diverse facets of travel and the hotel industry. In «REISEN I/2026» we fly high, dive deep, and let ourselves be enchanted by authentic experiences.

At over 3,000 meters above sea level, the «Cabane Tortin» Europe’s most exclusive private mountain hut, towers above the landscape, while the «Hubertus Mountain Refugio» in the Allgäu region combines Far Eastern wisdom with Alpine lightness. From the quiet hills of Umbria to sun-kissed Provence to art and architecture projects in Somerset, the Highlands, and Menorca, we search for places that inspire us and give us a sense of belonging.

We gaze at the starry sky and discover vibrant cities like Tunis. We ride the high-speed train through Indonesia and immerse ourselves in the Balinese way of life.

Independent expert insights form the foundation of the editorial content. At the same time, companies and organizations are invited to position themselves thematically with guest contributions. These special features, which appear in «Neue Zürcher Zeitung» or «NZZ am Sonntag», are not produced by the editorial team but by our in-house storytelling service: NZZ Content Creation.

Possible topics:

  • High up: At over 3,000 meters above sea level, the «Cabane Tortin» is Europe’s most exclusive private mountain hut. Only available for private buyouts by families or small groups, it combines high-end design, complete privacy, and alpine magic at the highest level—including a private chef, concierge, and mountain guide.
  • Let go in the mountains: at the «Hubertus Mountain Refugio» in the Allgäu region, Far Eastern wisdom and Alpine nature merge with ease.
  • Italy for insiders: Enchanting, authentic, quiet, and beautiful: Umbria, the green heart of Italy, captivates visitors with its rolling hills, medieval villages, authentic cuisine, and traditional craftsmanship. Here, you can discover Italy far away from the hustle and bustle.
  • Authentic Provence: Two hotels in Provence, both Swiss-owned, celebrate the art of enjoyment amid vineyards and lavender fields.
  • From a sleepy village to a cult destination: With projects in Somerset, the Highlands, and Menorca, Manuela and Iwan Wirth combine art, architecture, and lifestyle to create a new form of cultural tourism—sensual, inspiring, and cosmopolitan.
  • Astrotourism trend: Hotels that pride themselves on their facilities allow their guests to gaze at the starry night sky through a telescope. Sparkling nights and heavenly views for a cosmic start to the year.
  • City portrait: Tunis boasts a rich culture with historic medinas, impressive museums, and lively traditions. Charming hotels, creative restaurants, and exciting shopping destinations make Tunisia’s capital a unique experience.
  • On the express train through Indonesia: The new “Bullet Train Whoosh” travels at speeds of up to 345 kilometers per hour from Jakarta via Surabaya to the temple complex of Borobudur.
  • Fire on your belly, lotus in your gaze: At Layan Life by Anantara, ancient Thai healing arts are combined with futuristic technology. Here you can find relaxation that lasts longer than a holiday souvenir.
  • Bali – lively and party-loving: The island is small but multifaceted: there are chic beach clubs and laid-back surfing beaches, picturesque rice terraces and ornate temples, traditional handicrafts and authentic Indonesian cuisine.
  • Heading for the horizon on the upper deck: the «Explora» is a luxury ship that is more like a luxury hotel than a cruise ship. With eight top-class restaurants, starched bed linen, and a team that sees itself not just as crew but as hosts.
  • Private island of bliss: For nearly six decades, Mustique has been a sophisticated retreat for celebrities and glamorous globetrotters. There are no signs of this slowing down.
  • The other Dubai: Away from the iconic skyline, a new identity is emerging: Dubai is showing its creative side in former warehouses, hidden neighborhoods, and young galleries. The city between the desert and the sea is becoming a surprising art destination, a glittering world close to the stories of its creators.
  • Safari, gentle and quiet: at the new andBeyond Suyian Lodge in Kenya, we discover a safari that is more than just a search for the «Big Five». Here, you also get to know the «Small Five» and the «Ugly Five» and experience the wilderness in a slow-paced, mindful way.
