Journalistic concept

The financial world is changing. Currency turbulence, technological upheavals and tensions in geopolitics – anyone making provision today is navigating a different environment from that of just five years ago. Our special «Investment & Pensions» places these shifts in context and shows what they mean for wealth accumulation, retirement and investment strategy.

The old logic no longer applies. US equities are expensive, emerging markets are gaining strength, and cryptocurrencies remain volatile. At the same time, many face practical crossroads: lump-sum withdrawal or pension? Vested benefits account or portfolio? How much fluctuation can retirement assets withstand?

The focus of the «NZZ am Sonntag» brings both together: macroeconomic factors such as monetary policy or technology, as well as individual decisions. It shows how wealth accumulation and retirement planning can be shaped under new conditions.

Independent experts will provide insights into these editorially independent pieces. In addition, companies and organizations are invited to contribute guest articles, offering a broader thematic perspective. These special editions, appearing in the «Neue Zürcher Zeitung» or the «NZZ am Sonntag», are not produced by the editorial team but by our in-house storytelling service: NZZ Content Creation.

Possible topics:

  • Bitcoin under stress – speculation or strategic allocation?
Sharp volatility, ETF outflows and monetary policy headwinds: is the «Bitcoin story» damaged – or does the crypto winter offer opportunities for contrarian investors?
  • Emerging markets – the renewed appeal of growth economies
India, Vietnam, Brazil or Nigeria: why emerging markets appear attractive again after years in the shadow of the US – and how Swiss investors can manage currency risks.
  • Pension fund paid out – what next?
Lump sum or pension? Two life models compared, the story of a specific case and the question of how much risk one can afford in retirement.
  • Vested benefits – parked or invested?
Billions in pension assets are parked in low-interest accounts, for example after a job change. How large is the return gap compared with a vested benefits portfolio – and when is it worth switching?
  • Drawing pillar 3a wisely – saving tax in retirement
It is not only contributions that matter: with careful staging and planning, several thousand francs can be saved at the withdrawal stage.
  • Why pension funds perform so differently
How investment strategy, property allocation and governance shape returns – and what private investors can learn from this.
  • Finfluencers – a new power in the investment business?
Instagram, YouTube, TikTok: who is influencing young investors – and where is the line between education and advertising?
  • Start-up investments – venture capital for private investors?
Record investment in young Swiss companies. How can retail investors participate – and what risks do they bear?
  • Stablecoin & digital franc – 4 per cent interest in a crypto wrapper?
New providers promise franc-denominated returns based on blockchain. How robust are these models – and where do technological risks lie?
  • Home ownership and pensions for unmarried couples
Inheritance contracts, usufruct rights, compulsory portions: how couples without a marriage certificate can prevent the family home from having to be sold in the event of death.
  • Pillar 3a in transition – from savings vehicle to investment instrument
How the third pillar is evolving from a traditional savings insurance product into a return-oriented pension building block – and what the trend towards securities-based solutions means for providers and savers.
  • The strong Swiss franc – both curse and blessing
In a structurally strong Swiss franc environment: when does currency hedging still make sense? And how does the exchange rate alter the equation for US equities and emerging markets?
