Journalistic concept

Asset Management – What matters now

The faster markets change, the more important the long-term perspective becomes. Geopolitical conflicts, technological innovations and economic upheavals challenge proven investment strategies just as much as the business model of Asset Management itself.

The annually published focus report «Asset Management» explores these questions. It examines the developments that are shaping the industry in a lasting way, contextualises economic and geopolitical changes and shows how banks, independent asset managers and family offices are responding to the new challenges. The focus is not on short-term market forecasts, but on the long-term forces that are transforming Asset Management.

Independent expert insights form the foundation of the editorial content. At the same time, companies and organizations are invited to position themselves thematically with guest contributions. These special features, which appear in «Neue Zürcher Zeitung» or «NZZ am Sonntag», are not produced by the editorial team but by our in-house storytelling service: NZZ Story Lab.

Potential subjects

  • What is Asset Management still worth when AI builds portfolios? – Artificial intelligence automates research, risk analysis and portfolio optimisation. Where do new efficiency gains emerge – and where does human judgement remain irreplaceable?
  • The Swiss financial centre under pressure – Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai are gaining importance in international wealth management. How does Switzerland assert its position in an increasingly global competition?
  • When diversification becomes an illusion – Passive investment strategies continue to enjoy unbroken popularity. At the same time, global equity indices are concentrating on ever fewer companies. What risks does this create – and how are asset managers responding?
  • Private markets: from niche product to standard component? – Private equity, private debt and infrastructure investments are now part of many wealth strategies. What opportunities do they open up – and what risks are frequently underestimated?
  • Investing in a fragmented world – Wars, trade conflicts and new industrial policy are changing capital flows and investment decisions. How is geopolitics becoming an integral part of strategic asset allocation?
  • The human as a luxury good? – Digital platforms and robo-advisors are becoming more powerful. What role will personal advice still play in the future – and what are clients willing to pay for?
  • The greatest wealth transfer in history – In the coming years, trillions in assets will pass to the next generation worldwide. What expectations do younger investors have of asset managers? And how does this change advice, communication and client loyalty?
  • Zero interest rates are back – and with them the question of returns – With the SNB’s return to a zero interest rate environment, the investment landscape is changing once again. Which strategies are gaining importance when secure returns become scarce again?
