Journalistic concept

Financial technology comes of age

For a long time, «Digital Finance» was a playground for visionaries and speculators. That phase is over. Today, financial technology is facing its coming-of-age test. Artificial intelligence is making its way into private banking and asset management. At the same time, global regulation is tightening – with the MiCA Regulation («Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation») in the EU creating massive competitive pressure and becoming binding on 1 July.

For Switzerland, once the undisputed pioneer with its «Crypto Valley» and the DLT Act («Distributed Ledger Technology»), much is at stake. The challenge is to translate its historic location advantage into the age of algorithms. The symbiosis of traditional discretion and new possibilities must succeed; otherwise, Switzerland’s financial centre risks losing touch with the rest of the world. High time, then, for an NZZ special focus on «Digital Finance».

Editorially independent content will feature the voices of experts. Companies and organisations are also invited to position themselves on overarching topics through guest contributions. Special focuses published in the «Neue Zürcher Zeitung» or the «NZZ am Sonntag» are not produced by the editorial team, but by our in-house provider of journalistic storytelling: NZZ Story Lab.

Possible topics:

  • Lead article: How can Switzerland master financial technology’s coming-of-age test?
  • Interview: Daniela Stoffel, State Secretary for International Finance («SIF»)
  • Traditional discretion versus new possibilities: AI, app, adviser – or all three?
  • The house bank on your smartphone: How banking and payments are changing
  • Digitalised franc: Will wholesale CBDCs and stablecoins prevail?
  • Tokenised vault: When securities and luxury watches move onto the blockchain
  • Private markets: How can investors gain virtual access to private equity and private debt?
  • Sustainable finance: Better algorithms for more sustainable investments
